I am a big fan of the Peter Jackson LotR films, and now I’m starting to really get revved up for the three Hobbit movies. This looks incredibly good. I’m beginning to think he could even turn the Silmarillion into something interesting and watchable! (Although he’d probably turn it into… what? A dozen films?)
The Silmarillion would be more like a multi-season HBO series like Game of Thrones. But Christopher Tolkien will never let it happen.

As Rob Conley mentioned, the Tolkien estate is not giving up the rights to The Silm any time soon.
But if it did, I would prefer it as a Game of Thrones style TV series. Though a series of movies could work. One each centered on Fëanor, Lúthien, Túrin, Húrin, the Nauglafring, and Tuor would work. Even better, interweave the stories (quite possible with the last four subjects).
They can keep the Silm (blek)
