Seventeen lost pyramids are among the buildings identified in a new satellite survey of Egypt.
More than 1,000 tombs and 3,000 ancient settlements were also revealed by looking at infra-red images which show up underground buildings.
Initial excavations have already confirmed some of the findings, including two suspected pyramids.
I think it is so cool that there are still so much history that is still left to be discovered. I mean, entire pyramids!
It's probably wishful thinking to hope they weren't looted before being covered, huh?
All that previously lost history… It's like it was MEANT to be explored by intrepid adventurers!
Or perhaps… just maybe… they were hidden for a damn good reason! *Cue unspekable horrors from dimensions beyond*
I'm not a scientist, but doesn't infra-red pick up heat signatures? Why is there warmth coming from a buried city and an accompanying pyramid?
And Alan has already spoken of the unspeakable, so it may be too late already…
I took a grad class in Remote Sensing tech,so I'll see if I can explain in layman's terms. Infared isn't heat it's light. Due to its wavelength many sediments (including sands) are relatively easy for IR to pass through, while many other materials( such as the limestone used for Egyptian construction) are not, so you can "see" underground structures using IR cameras if you know what you're looking for (and how to look for it.)
